Session Overview

Social impact assessment is of increasing importance within the sphere of "social entrepreneurship" and "impact investing" as a means to measure and monitor the social returns or social outputs of a business.

Business entrepreneurs typically measure performance in profit and return, but social entrepreneurs also take into account a positive return to society. Social entrepreneurship typically in addition to economic goal of profit also furthers broad social, cultural, and environmental goals.

More specifically, social entrepreneurs adopt a mission to create and sustain social value. Similarly impact investors are primarily distinguished by their intention to address social and environmental challenges through their deployment of capital. Criteria to evaluate the positive social and/or environmental outcomes of investments are an integrated component of the investment process.

A commitment to measure social and environmental performance with same rigor as financial performance is critical and indispensable.

The workshop will specifically focus on

What is social value, and social value proposition?
Why measure social return on Investment?
Building your own performance measurement system.
Making a commitment. What to consider before you start.
Planning to measure /audit and choose what to measure and how to measure?
Current issues in social impact measurement and review of best practice,
Share the proven techniques and examples.
Share the experience at Skills for change, with tips and advice.
